As visitors enter the New Mexico Veterans’ Memorial, they are greeted by The Boulevard of Flags.
This entryway was created to display the nation’s national colors and the flags representing each of the six U.S. military services, as well as the POW/MIA.
The New Mexico Veterans’ Memorial has 65 service flags, 65 POW/MIA flags, and 65 American flags. Flags are flown annually on the birthdays for each service, and if a special event is occurring, the flags for that particular service are displayed. The 65 American flags were donated by Congresswoman Heather Wilson, all of which had flown over the nation’s capital. The 65 service flags were also donated by the late Mr. Manny Goodman, whom many in Albuquerque referred to as “the Mayor of Old Town”.
