The three message walls feature Holes in which to leave memorabilia – notes, flowers, photographs, objects – to someone lost in the Vietnam War. Items left will be collected and later displayed. The sculptures is made from concrete, steel and travertine, all local material. Almost 400 Holes, large and small, represent New Mexicans lost in the Vietnam War. The Declaration of War with North Vietnam took place on August 7, 1964 with the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which will be our annual dedication date for this monument.
