Gold Star Mothers Monument

The day before Christmas in 2017, there was a foundry fire where the Gold Star Mothers Monument Sculpture was being created. The bronze sculpture melted and was completely destroyed. The New Mexico Veterans Memorial Foundation stepped in to help raise funds to rebuild this commemorative piece. The sculpture named “The Hands That Held The Child” is designed by New Mexico Sculptor Duke Sundt and is displayed in the park at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial.

A Gold Star Mother  is a mother whose child has served and died in the line of duty in the Armed Forces of the United States of America or its Allies; or those who have died as a result of injuries sustained in such service. In recent years, there was a consensus to develop a monument as a tribute to the families as well as provide a designated area for parents to visit and reminiscence. Let us gather together as a community and help these deserving parents get the monument they desire.
